“Spotlight on Partners” series

Partner SUZLON

Let’s meet our third industry partner today: Suzlon Energy Blades, a part of Suzlon Group, one of the leading renewable energy solutions providers in the world.

Founded in 1995, Suzlon has grown to over 10,000 employees, becoming the world’s fifth largest wind turbine manufacturer. Over the past two decades, Suzlon has installed over ~20.8 GW of wind energy in 17 countries across six continents.

Suzlon Energy Blades, located in Netherlands, is an organization with extensive experience in composites technology and an R&D team specialized in structuraldesign and materialdevelopment of rotor blade for wind turbines. As a company designing and validating new rotorblades, Suzlon Energy Blades must conduct various tests at different load iterations, which are critical to understand the behaviour of the material systems under operational conditions. The company’s contribution to D-STANDART is an opportunity to work towards reducing the test durations, accelerate design iterations, and reduce the time-to-market. Faster development cycles and more competitive pricing for customers are expected to stimulate the uptake of renewable energies.

Suzlon is also dedicated to building relations with universities and research institutes to continuously improve the company’s internal processes.

SUZLON's role in D-STANDART

In D-STANDART project, Suzlon Energy Blades concentrates its main efforts on WP1 “Material characterisation testing” and WP3 “Effect of manufacturing defects”. Our partner brings to the consortium its expertise and skills on manufacturing, fatigue testing and material data, and in particular on structural rotor blade design and production optimisation. Most importantly, it provides one of the two use cases implemented in D-STANDART methodology.
